- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream cold
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
- 1 2/3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange extract
Add cold heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract to stand mixer bowl. Mix on speed 4 until it thickens. It should hold its shape and be spreadable, like cool whip.
Put whipped cream mixture into another bowl or large measuring cup and set aside.
Add the room temperature cream cheese, powdered sugar and orange extract to the bowl of the mixer.
Mix completely until smooth.
Pour whipped cream mixture into the bowl with the cream cheese mixture. Use a silicone spatula to fold whipped cream into cream cheese. To fold, you will gently flip(fold) the ingredients on the bottom of the bowl to the top. Repeat this motion until everything is completely combined. You do not want to “stir” or overwork mixture.
Use a spoon or butter knife to spread frosting on to cupcakes.
Frosting can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use. It will stay fresh for a few days.
