Did you know that your skin is the largest organ of your body? Our skin protects us from bacteria, chemicals and the temperature around us, plus so much more. If it is built to protect us from chemicals then why are we covering it with chemicals all the time? This is a question I couldn’t stop asking myself.

I have slowly been learning how to make one skincare item after another to replace all of my storebought ones. Don’t ask me why Body Butter was my one item that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tackle or not. I liked the one I was using and I was afraid this wouldn’t be up to par.

I love a good thick cream for my feet in the summer and for dry skin in the winter. The lotion bars are great for my hands but trying to spread it all of my body is kind of a pain. So this whipped body butter is the perfect solution for those extremely dry skin situations. It is easy to make and only 4 ingredients unless you want to add to scent, I did not feel the need to.

Most recipes call for olive oil. I personally don’t like the smell of olive oil that much and I have read that Avocado oil is good for aging skin. Since I am now in my 40’s I figure it is time to up the skincare game. We use Doterra essential oils which you can purchase here if you are interested.

DIY Whipped Body Butter

Equipment

Materials

1/2 cup Coconut Oil
1/2 cup Cocoa Butter
1/2 cup Shea Butter
1/3 cup Avocado Oil
*10-20 drops Essential Oils of Choice. Optional

Instructions

Add all 4 oils/butters to a double boiler.
Heat on low until completely melted.
Stir and pour into glass bowl.
Refrigerate until it firms up but still can be easily manipulated. (This can be over an hour)
Place in mixer with a whisk and mix on 4 until it looks like whipped cream. This may take a few minutes and may require you to stop and scrape down the edges of the bowl and empty whisk. (This is the time you would add the essential oils in to scent it whatever you want)
Place into a mason jar for storage and use. I suggest half pint jars.
